We tend to feel more inclined to the despair in our lives.
No matter how we try to escape it
No matter which way we turn from it
We always find ourselves facing that familiar taste
Of desolation
Something holds us back, ties us down
Locks away our courage to unlock
Happiness
Truth of the matter is
We’re afraid of what happiness could bring us
Because what could possibly satisfy us
What could possibly feed the masochistic need
To constantly suffer to know that we are truly living
That we are here right now,
Struggling through each moment
In an effort to get somewhere
We need that assurance that pain promises
Even faced with happiness before me,
Will I step forward to reach and embrace it?
